Fabuła

Mel Gibson wciela się w profesora Jamesa Murraya, który w 1875 roku rozpoczyna prace nad słownikiem. W zamyśle część haseł w pozycji miała pochodzić od czytelników, do których Murray wystosował apel w gazetach. Wkrótce okazało się, że autorem ponad 10 tys. haseł do wydawnictwa jest William Chester Minor, genialny chirurg, który przebywa w zakładzie dla obłąkanych.
